2012 Nominees for the Japan Academy Prize for Animation of the Year

The K-On! Movie (Eiga K-On!) was recently nominated the Japan Academy Prize for Animation of the Year, attesting to the unique aspects of the movie and its popularity in Japan amongst both the audiance and seasoned critics alike; the movie has been praised for its depiction of London, the girl’s travels and ultimately, left a heartwarming impression in the hearts of those who watched it. The gentle development of the story creates an exceedingly well-crafted final product that has impressed other notable script writers, including Tsuji Masaki and Japanese social commentator Miyazaki Tetsuya.

However, it is important to stress that the movie has only been nominated for this prestigious award at this point; the award itself was first given out in 2007 to the film The Girl Who Leapt Through Time. The winner of the award will be announced somewhere in March 2012. Other nominees include Studio Ghibi’s From Up On Poppy Hill, Kozo Morishita’s Bhudda and Detective Conan: Quarter of Silence. Insofar, the K-On! Movie itself has grossed around 20.3 million dollars USD.
