Fried chicken on a summer’s evening

When I’m speaking of fried chicken, I’m referring to chicken that is coated in a batter and deep fried in oil to produce a crisp exterior coating. This form of frying is differentiated from other methodologies in that forms of chicken is that generally the chicken is cut at the joints and the bones and skin are left intact. Crisp, well-seasoned skin, rendered of excess fat, is a hallmark of well-made fried chicken.

  • The combination of fried chicken and fried potatoes is an excellent one, especially when paired with a chilled soda on a sunny summer evening. Like everything else, such as anime, it is enjoyed best in moderation.

Fried chicken has existed since the Middle Ages in Europe, and became popular in America in the 18th and 19th century, where combination of flour, lard, a chicken and a heavy pan placed over a relatively controllable flame became the beginning of today’s fried chicken, being a good means of consuming excess lard and other fats. Cantonese cuisine also includes a form of fried chicken: it is fried in such a way that the skin is extremely crunchy, but the white meat remains relatively soft. This dish is common at dinners and major events, and is more frequently referred to as crispy fried chicken to differentiate it from friend chicken.
